  • What they’re "protecting" us from – Anil Dash It's a choice whether you, or anyone else, wants to accept the falsehood that liberal values are somehow in contradiction with business success at a global scale. Indeed, it would seem that many who claim to be pro-business are trying to "save" us from exactly the inclusive, creative, tolerant values that have made America's most successful company possible. I side with the makers, the creators, and the inventors, and it's about time that the pack of clamoring would-be politicians be put on the defensive for attacking the values of those of us on this side.
  • Ex-Health Insurance Executive: Rick Scott HMO Debacle Goes Against His "Obamacare" Rhetoric – Broward/Palm Beach News – The Daily Pulp Wendell Potter — a former health care insurance executive who most recently left his post as the head of communications for CIGNA — has been following up on the Pulp's post on Florida's newest HMO policy for state employees, and agrees that the decision to allow just one HMO provider per county is a bit strange.

The way Potter sees it, Gov. Rick Scott is now "doing exactly what he falsely claimed federal reform would do."

Now working as a senior analyst at the Center for Public Integrity, Potter says Scott used to be at the forefront in the crusade against the so-called "Obamacare," and even though the governor wasn't dropping facts about the new program, he's doing exactly what he led people to believe would happen — limit competition.

Daily Pic

I happened to see these guys on a tree next to my building this morning.

Lovin' Lizards

Photo of the day

Snail on bromeliad

I noticed this snail on a bromeliad flower in my neighbor’s garden. I used my Sigma 70-300mm lens for this shot.

Fort Lauderdale photo walk

Today’s photo walk was lots of fun, despite the unbearably hot weather. We had a great group of more than 50 people. The group met in front of Starbucks on Las Olas and walked east.

In addition to the regular photos, I took a few sets of bracketed shots for HDR processing. This is one of my favorites.

I used an Eye-Fi Pro card in my D90, which geotagged all of my photos. When I got home, I simply left the camera powered on and let it upload the photos wirelessly to my computer and SmugMug.

See my full set of photos here.

Uploading iPhone 3GS Videos to Flickr

If you’ve attempted to upload any video from an iPhone 3GS to Flickr, you’ve probably seen Flickr’s “Unable to process this video” screen no matter how you uploaded it. The iPhone’s MOV files aren’t supported by Flickr due to the codec it uses. A very simple solution is to export it as AVI from QuickTime Pro or any other media converter. You can then upload the exported AVI movies to Flickr.

Photo of the day Caption Contest

This one needs a caption badly. The best caption gets a promo code for ICHC Premium.

Thunderstorms

D90 video of today’s heavy thunderstorms, shot through a window.

WWDC Preparations

Unfortunately I have to be home next week, so I’ll be missing out on WWDC. I did get a chance to walk by Moscone West and take photos of Apple’s preparation for the event.

Could this be a prediction of a 32GB iPhone?

Video of the day

I walked to the Embarcadero Center today, which is much closer than I realized. I just had to go there to mess with everyone at home (the name of my condo is The Embarcadero, so I emailed pictures saying I’m at the Embarcadero).

These musicians called The Jugtown Pirates were playing outside the ferry building. They’re pretty good and they sort of remind me of the Fleet Foxes.

I also took many more pictures, which I added to my San Francisco photo set on Flickr.
